Electricity and gas tariffs may rise by 25%: why the price increase is becoming inevitable already this year

The cost of gas and electricity may increase by 25% as early as this year.

This increase is due to the transition to market prices as part of the integration of Ukraine’s energy market with the EU — the relevant law has already been approved by the Verkhovna Rada.

As an expert notes, despite the reluctance to raise tariffs during the war, this is practically inevitable due to huge debts in the energy sector and the financial difficulties of «Naftogaz».

The tariff increase is likely to be gradual to avoid a sharp impact on consumers.
