The Kinburn Spit in the Kherson region has come under full fire control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. There are still 2.5 thousand Russian troops remaining on the peninsula.

This was stated by the commander of the operational-tactical group "Odesa" Denys Nosikov in an interview with "Radio Liberty". According to him, units of the 337th Separate Assault Regiment of the Russian Armed Forces are stationed there, and reserves are being pulled in from the Orikhiv and Melitopol directions.

According to him, from the peninsula the Russians can shell the southern coast of the Mykolaiv region, and it is also key to controlling the Dnieper-Bug estuary. For Ukrainian forces, the spit opens the way to the occupied Kherson region and Crimea.

"No one will allow them to retreat further, or to the right, or to the left. This is an exit to the Kherson region, etc. There is a short distance to the Kherson region, and only 40-50 kilometers in the direction of Crimea. And any medium-range UAVs already reach there. This is the same logistics and occupied territories. That is, even with the use of fairly inexpensive UAVs, one can work very seriously from there. Therefore, of course, they will hold on at any cost. Because this opens the way forward, and the story with Crimea will be very difficult," he said.

Nosikov added that currently the occupiers’ units have withdrawn from their positions deeper into the peninsula due to Ukrainian attacks.

"They try to use any opportunity, for example, weather conditions; the day before yesterday the weather was a bit better and they tried to bring in eight units of automotive equipment and somehow hide them, bring something so that there would be at least something. All eight units were destroyed," the officer stated.

"There are constant cases of them fleeing from there. We record constant cases, including mass ones. When ammunition, food, and water are not delivered, when there is constant fire impact, they run from one hole to another, when they constantly die, those they see nearby, and so on. And all the chaos that is happening on the radio, we hear and see everything. Due to the fact that logistics routes are constantly being mined, including with anti-personnel mine-explosive devices, escaping somewhere does not always work either, so this is all a kind of trap territory. Almost constant panic, almost constant orders to sit and not run anywhere, to hold, etc.," says Denys Nosikov.
