Switzerland will allocate 730 thousand dollars for the protection and restoration of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra after the RF strike

Switzerland will allocate 600 thousand Swiss francs, or about $730 thousand, for the preparation of the restoration of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and its protection from further destruction. The complex was damaged as a result of a Russian air strike in June 2026.

This was reported by the Swiss Federal Council.

On August 15, 2026, Switzerland joined the events marking the 975th anniversary of the monastic complex of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. The country was represented at the celebrations by the Federal Council representative for Ukraine, Jacques Gerber.

On the occasion of the anniversary, the Swiss side announced the allocation of 600 thousand Swiss francs.

“Switzerland announces the allocation of 600,000 Swiss francs for the preparation of the restoration of the cave monastery, which was damaged as a result of a Russian air strike in June 2026, as well as for its protection from further destruction,” the Federal Council said in a statement.

The funds will primarily be directed toward preparatory work for the future restoration and the protection of historic structures from further damage.

The Swiss Federal Council emphasized that Ukraine continues to suffer intense Russian air attacks.

As a result of the strike on June 15, 2026, the Assumption Cathedral and other historic structures on the territory of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra were damaged.

The monastic complex is one of Ukraine’s most important religious and cultural sites and is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Earlier, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sybiha welcomed the Swiss side’s decision to allocate the funds.

According to him, Switzerland’s support is of particular importance for the preservation of Ukraine’s cultural and historical heritage, which continues to suffer from Russian attacks.
