«We need to start a discussion»: Reznikov spoke in favor of discussing the mobilization of women in Ukraine

Former Defence Minister Oleksiy Reznikov believes that Ukraine should discuss the possibility of mobilizing women. At the same time, he emphasizes that he is not calling for sending all Ukrainian women to the front tomorrow, but proposes studying the experience of other countries.

Reznikov stated this in an interview with «Telegraph».

According to him, women can be effective, in particular, in working with drones. Reznikov claims that physiologically, women have a better reaction to threats, and their peripheral vision is better developed.

«Who can operate a drone better? I will tell you that physiologically, women have a better reaction. Girls react to threats faster. Girls have better developed peripheral vision», he said.

Reznikov stressed that this is about starting a public discussion, not about a decision on the immediate mobilization of women.

«I am not saying ’all women on the battlefield tomorrow’. I am saying that we need to start a discussion and study the experience», the former minister said.

He suggested studying the experience of Israel, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and the Netherlands, where various models of gender-neutral military service are in place. If Ukrainian society does not support such an approach, Reznikov believes it is necessary to look for other solutions.

At the same time, there are currently no decisions regarding the mobilization of women in Ukraine. The Verkhovna Rada previously stated that it is not preparing any relevant legislative initiatives or bills.
