At the border, a fictitious marriage was exposed: a man tried to leave for Germany with his disabled wife

At the "Ugryniv" checkpoint, border guards detected signs of a possible fictitious marriage in a couple traveling from Ukraine to Germany. The woman admitted that she agreed to the marriage for money.

This is reported by the 7th Carpathian Border Detachment.

A 48-year-old resident of Chernihiv arrived for departure from Ukraine together with his 38-year-old wife — a resident of Chernihiv region with group II disability. The man explained that they planned to find employment abroad.

During the check, the border guards found that the man had previously traveled abroad as a father of many children. After his eldest child turned 18, this ground for crossing the border ceased to be valid.

The man said he met his future wife in March 2026 in her village. At the same time, when asked about their relationship, he replied: "After 30, there is no love, the main thing is that the woman is hardworking."

During the interview, the border guards found a number of contradictions in the couple’s answers. In particular, the man could not name his wife’s relatives.

He also said that he gave her cigarettes for her birthday, as smoking is her "hobby."

It later emerged that after registering the marriage, the man and woman did not live together.

During the conversation, the woman reported that she had agreed to the marriage for 300 US dollars. According to her, after crossing the border the man also promised to give her an additional amount.

In view of the circumstances identified, the border guards sent a report to the National Police about possible signs of a criminal offense under Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — illegal transfer of persons across the state border of Ukraine.

The final legal assessment of the actions of the man and woman is to be provided by the authorized law enforcement agencies.
