The Swedish government has decided to allocate 28 million euros to support the defence capabilities of Ukraine, which continues to fight a full-scale Russian invasion. 18 million euros will be transferred to coalitions within the Contact Group for the Defense of Ukraine (Ramstein), and 10 million euros will be sent to the NATO Fund for Ukraine.
This was announced on Thursday, May 9, on the website of the Swedish Ministry of Defence. As noted, the government has ordered payments to three coalitions within the framework of Ramstein, of which Sweden is a member.
€5 million will be donated to the Demining Coalition, €3 million to the Maritime Security Coalition and €10 million to the Drone Coalition.
The Swedish Armed Forces will contribute 10 million euros to the NATO Comprehensive Assistance Package Trust Fund for Ukraine, which aims to purchase fuel, medical equipment, military training equipment and support in strengthening and modernizing Ukraine’s defense and security institutions.
The head of the Swedish defense department, Paul Johnson, emphasized that the state will continue to support Ukraine as long as necessary.“Swedish support will gradually develop towards the acquisition of new equipment in industry for transfer to Ukraine. Thanks to these contributions to the funds, we can strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities in the field of drones, mine clearance and strengthening the capabilities of the Ukrainian fleet,” the Minister of Defence noted.
