IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi confirmed that a transformer at the Pivdennoukrayinska NPP had suffered an accident. The incident occurred last week.
This was stated on the website of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Friday, July 26.
The IAEA team at the Pivdennoukrayinska Nuclear Power Plant reported that its Unit 2 was temporarily shut down after an electrical panel tripped. This was due to a transformer problem at a 330 kV outdoor switchgear located off-site.
As a result of the short circuit, the ceramic insulator was damaged, resulting in oil leakage, which ignited due to an electric arc.
Once the electrical connection was reconnected, the reactor was restarted and began supplying power to the grid after about 17 hours, reaching full power just over 24 hours after shutdown.
