Dismissal of Air Force commander not related to F-16 crash - Umerov

The dismissal of the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Air Force Mykola Oleshchuk is not connected with the F-16 fighter crash. It was most likely a routine rotation.

Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov announced this in an interview with CNN.

"I would probably say that this is a rotation (Oleshchuk’s dismissal, - Ed.). These are two separate issues... at the moment, I would not connect them," Umerov noted.

Umerov described the pilot’s death as an "unfortunate situation" and noted that Ukraine is investigating the incident.

"We are analyzing what happened... We have also involved our partners in this case so that they can conduct analysis and investigation together with us," Umerov added.
