If the current US President Joe Biden refuses to support Ukraine’s victory plan, it will mean that he supports a prolonged war with numerous casualties, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy explained. The main characteristic of this plan is the absence of Russia’s participation.
Ukraine is implementing a plan aimed at demonstrating that Russia does not actually intend to engage in any peace negotiations. The actions of Ukraine’s partners before the war (providing the maximum amount of weapons) could have stopped the Russians, but that was not done. The proposal that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy is taking to the US is discussed in his interview with the New Yorker.
The journalist quoted President Zelenskyy, who explained that peace summits were supposed to show partners and other countries that Russia does not actually plan any negotiations. The refusal to participate in the second summit confirmed this. The new plan proposes how to end the war without the participation of the aggressor country, and this is the plan he will present to Joe Biden. According to the president, Ukraine is currently operating according to Plan "B," which it was forced into by the actions of its partners. Plan "A" involves achieving a just peace after forcing the Kremlin into negotiations.
"We have been living according to Plan B for years. Now I am offering a new Plan A. If you do not want this war to last forever, we offer you a plan to strengthen Ukraine. This plan was developed mainly with Biden’s support. If he does not want to support it, I cannot force him. If he refuses, then we must continue living by Plan B. And that is sad," emphasized the president.
Zelenskyy added that this would mean that Biden responds to his peace proposal with a "no." He emphasized that this is a "terrible thought," suggesting that the US does not want to defeat Russia and is willing to support the idea of a prolonged war that will take the lives of "a huge number of people."
