Over the past month and a half, the Russian Federation army has intensified its offensive in the northern areas of the Donetsk region — particularly in the Lyman direction — in an attempt to capture Lyman and then advance towards Slovyansk.
This was reported on November 1 in a broadcast of the project "Suspilne. Studio" by Maksym Bilousov, a representative of the 60th Separate Mechanized Inhuletsky Brigade of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
«The direction is very prioritized because it is one of the possible routes to the Slovyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration. It is very important for them to capture Lyman and through it, through Raihorodok, to advance towards Slovyansk,» he said.
In addition, according to Bilousov, the Russian occupiers are trying to cross the Zherebets river east of Lyman.
«It is important for them to get into Lyman through the Zherebets river. In the short term - reaching Lyman. All other settlements are too small to be targets. There are certain difficulties here, they need to go directly. From the flanks, it is complicated due to the local terrain and relief features,» he explained.
As Bilousov noted, to achieve success in the Lyman direction, the aggressor country’s army, the Russian Federation, has dispatched more prepared units to this front section.
«For the past month and a half — constant attacks, constant assaults by the enemy. And if earlier these were, one could say, convicts or inexperienced enemy fighters, now well-prepared groups are already appearing, assaulting our positions. The conclusion is one — they want to achieve results. Poorly trained or untrained can only identify our fire points, positions, while well-prepared soldiers can succeed. Their aviation and artillery systems are operating,» concluded the representative of the 60th Separate Mechanized Brigade.
