In the Pokrovsk direction, including Kurakhove, there are between 60,000 to 70,000 Russian military personnel. At this moment, Pokrovsk has become an important political direction for the Russian dictator, not just a military one.
This opinion was expressed by military expert, chairman of the Council of Reserve Officers of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Ivan Tymochko on "Ukrainian Radio".
"Several factors will affect the situation. This includes the destruction that the territory is subjected to. The territory is held by troops as long as it can be used for benefit. This allows for the preservation of personnel and equipment. If the destruction reaches such a level that it is impossible to maintain defence, and the resources involved in the defence suffer losses significantly greater than the benefits of holding the territory, then the troops, of course, have to retreat," the expert explained.
According to him, despite all the efforts of the Ukrainian military, it is difficult to predict how the situation will develop further.
"Holding territories here is an extremely difficult task. Elections have taken place in America, and it is shaping its political strategy. Therefore, the Russian Federation will strive to occupy as much territory as possible before any political challenges that may arise in the near future," Tymochko believes.
