Ukrainians are divided in their opinions about Trump, will his victory bring peace

Almost half of Ukrainians (45%) believe that Donald Trump’s victory in the US elections could bring peace closer in the war with Russia, although only 15% are confident that it will happen to a significant extent.

This is indicated by the results of a survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) from December 2 to 17.

Main survey results:

45% believe that peace will become closer (15% – significantly, 30% – slightly). 14% suggest that Trump’s victory, on the contrary, distances peace (5% – significantly, 9% – slightly). 40% either do not expect changes or have no defined position.

Sociologists also asked about the fairness of potential peace:

Only 7% believe that under Trump’s presidency, Ukraine could achieve a completely fair peace. 11% are convinced that the peace will be completely unfair. The majority (31%) expect that peace will be mostly unfair, while 23% believe it will be mostly or completely fair. 29% of respondents believe that the peace will be a compromise with the fulfillment of demands from both Ukraine and Russia.

Context

The results indicate a division of opinions among Ukrainians regarding the future during Trump’s possible presidency. At the same time, a significant portion of respondents believes that peace can be achieved only on compromise terms, implying certain concessions from Ukraine.
