The mayor of Irpin, Oleksandr Markushyn, was chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention until March 22 with a possible bail of 30 million UAH. This decision was made in the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv.
The preventive measure for Markushyn was chosen within the framework of criminal proceedings on suspicion of committing a criminal offense provided for by Part 2 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (organization of illegal transfer of persons across the state border of Ukraine), which is punishable by imprisonment for a term of five to seven years, with the deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years.
As established by the investigators of the SBI, in the summer of 2022, the mayor of Irpin illegally crossed the border of Ukraine and went on vacation. In addition, media reports spread that Markushyn also organized illegal border crossing for other individuals, six of whom did not return to Ukraine. In particular, it is about Markushyn’s friend, Serhiy Rosstalny, who left for the United States for permanent residence.
It also became known that Oleksandr Markushyn, allegedly, forged a submission from a charitable foundation for the departure of draft dodgers. This was stated by the founder of the Charitable Foundation "Ridne Selo" Andriy Pomazan. The foundation applied to the State Bureau of Investigation with a statement about the crime regarding the forgery by the mayor of Irpin, Oleksandr Markushyn, of the foundation’s application for the departure of volunteers.
