It is too early to talk about signing a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia. Ukrainians need support from the USA.
This was stated by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during the Munich Security Conference.
"At the moment, we cannot discuss a peace agreement, unfortunately. As the war has been ongoing for three years now, there have been many deaths, much destruction, primarily of human lives. All this was brought by Putin (Russian dictator Vladimir Putin - Ed.) and only him," stated the head of state.
He added that it’s not worth "seeking mediation" between Ukraine and the head of the Kremlin. What Ukraine needs now is firm support from the US and President Donald Trump.
"A peace agreement cannot be signed in Munich, because this is Munich and there is no president here. And we remember the documents that were once signed here (referring to the Munich Agreement, according to which Czechoslovakia ceded the Sudetenland to Nazi Germany - Ed.). I will not repeat such actions," stated Zelenskyy.
According to him, a peace agreement should be a plan to end the war, which must be supported by Ukraine and the USA. The role of European countries is also important since it concerns security guarantees - the main element of any document on ending the war.
Zelenskyy clarified that the voice of Europe at the negotiation table is very important to Ukraine because the country will soon become a full-fledged part of the European Union.
