In Chasiv Yar, Donetsk region, soldiers of the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine used a drone to extract two civilians from under fire.
The brigade reported this on Facebook.
During a combat flight, the pilots of the mechanized battalion of the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade initially spotted a lost Russian soldier trying to return to his "own." They started to attack him with FPV drones. However, he hid in a basement.
The Ukrainian defenders planned to strike the building with a shell, but at the last moment, two civilians—a woman and a man—appeared among the ruins.
The combat operation was halted. The defenders sent a drone with a loudspeaker to the civilians, through which they provided instructions.
"During the operation, the woman and the man followed the drone’s guidance virtually from scratch—past minefields, wild animals, and under the threat of enemy drone, artillery, and mortar strikes. They had to cover over eight kilometers," the brigade recounted.
Communicating via drone, the soldiers guided the civilians to the positions of the infantry of the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade and subsequently evacuated them to the nearest shelter.
