The Security Service of Ukraine in Zakarpattia has uncovered an agent network of Hungarian military intelligence for the first time

The Security Service of Ukraine has, for the first time in the country’s history, uncovered an agent network of Hungarian military intelligence engaged in espionage activities against Ukraine.

In Zakarpattia, two individuals working for Hungarian special services were detained. One of the detainees — a 40-year-old former military personnel, whose task was to assess the sentiments of the local population, as well as gather information on military forces in the region and opportunities to acquire weapons on the black market.

The second detainee — a former servicewoman of the Ukrainian Defence Forces, who resigned from service in 2025, provided the Hungarian special service with information on the presence of military equipment, including aircraft and helicopters, in the Zakarpattia region.

The case participants have been charged under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason under martial law). The detainees are being held in custody. If convicted, they face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

This incident underscores the importance of combating adversarial intelligence networks during wartime and is a significant achievement for the Security Service of Ukraine.
