This year, Germany guarantees support for Ukraine in the amount of 7 billion euros, but the German government plans to allocate an additional 1.9 billion.
As reported by a Ukrinform correspondent, this was stated by the Federal Minister of Defence of Germany, Boris Pistorius, during a conversation with the media after a meeting with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in Kyiv.
"We plan to provide 9 billion euros to support Ukraine," he noted.
The minister emphasized that initially, the support was planned at the level of 4 billion euros, but in recent months it has been increased by another 3 billion euros. "And we want to add another 1.9 billion euros, but this has not yet been finally decided," Pistorius explained.
According to him, part of these funds will be directed towards financing the production of Ukrainian long-range weapons, which should be ready "in the near future."
At the same time, the head of the German defence department noted that the German government is currently not considering the possibility of supplying Ukraine with German Taurus cruise missiles.
Pistorius emphasized that the defensive war Ukraine is conducting is also aimed at ensuring peace throughout Europe. He noted that Russia has only intensified attacks on Ukraine in recent weeks, clearly showing a lack of desire for peace, making it very important for partners to strengthen their support for Ukraine.
