"Putin is bombing a children’s hospital": a year ago, Russia shelled "Okhmatdyt"

A year ago, on July 8, the aggressor country, Russia, during a massive attack on Kyiv, hit the building of the children’s hospital "Okhmatdyt."  The Russian X-101 cruise missile damaged several buildings of the medical facility, including the toxicology building.

According to a report by OBOZ.UA correspondent Andriy Zhyhaylo, who worked at the scene at the time, the clearing of the rubble lasted for more than a day. Among the victims were children and medical staff.

Thus, on the morning of July 8, 2024, the aggressor country, Russia, during the shelling of Kyiv, hit the building of a children’s medical facility — the "Okhmatdyt" hospital.

As a result of the terrorist attack, several buildings of the facility were damaged, including the toxicology building. There, children were receiving dialysis — that is, the young patients were "tethered" to blood purification machines. Two adults died in the facility, one of them being a doctor.

It is worth adding that the rubble was cleared not only by rescuers and law enforcement officers but also by concerned Kyiv residents who immediately arrived at the scene to help.

Later, the Security Service of Ukraine reported that Russia deliberately fired at "Okhmatdyt" with an X-101 missile. Its fragments were found at the scene, and the moment of impact was captured by cameras. The X-101 is a Russian strategic air-to-ground cruise missile built with stealth technology. It is widely used during the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

In total, the terrorist attack on Kyiv that day claimed the lives of 32 people, including 4 children. 120 civilians were injured, among them 10 children, and 11 more people were rescued.
