In the Kupyansk direction in the Kharkiv region, border guards of the "Phoenix" unit captured two Russian infantrymen with the help of a Mavic drone and saved them from attacks by their former comrades.
This was reported by the press service of the border unit on Thursday, July 10.
According to the military, during a night patrol, they discovered a Russian dugout with five infantrymen. The border guards managed to neutralize several invaders, but two attempted to flee. During the day, the unit’s reconnaissance found the two Russians trying to attract attention with a makeshift "white flag." The Ukrainian border guards decided to capture them.
"We took a bottle of water and attached a note to it: ’If you want to surrender, follow the drone quickly as your pilots intend to kill you.’ We dropped the bottle with the note to them and showed them where to go with the drone [...] They were very happy with the dropped water, started waving their hands and thanking us. It seemed they had been suffering from thirst for a long time," said the drone operator with the call sign "Kamaz."
The operation lasted about an hour and a half. During this time, Russian drone operators tried to attack their former comrades who were captured. One of the invaders was injured. However, the border guards managed to lead the captives to the positions of a neighboring unit, which carried out their detention.
"Our goal was not just to kill the enemy. If he shows a clear intention to surrender, we show humanity. This is important because it distinguishes us from the enemy," emphasized the commander of the "Phoenix" unit with the call sign "Pacifist."
