Contract killing of an entrepreneur in Troyeshchyna: suspected killer detained in Odesa

The Kyiv police, in cooperation with Odesa operatives, have arrested a man suspected of killing a businessman in Troyeshchyna. According to the investigation, he is the one who ambushed 47-year-old Oleksandr near his house on the morning of July 8, waited for him to get into his car, and shot him in the head from close range. On the eve of the murder, the suspect was near the future victim’s house, surveying the area.

The capital’s police reported the arrest of the criminal, who left for Odesa after the murder. The hitman turned out to be a 41-year-old foreigner, who was taken into custody in Odesa thanks to the joint efforts of Kyiv and Odesa police operatives and with the support of the KORD special unit fighters. The man was staying in one of the hotels at that time.

“It was established that on the morning of July 8, in the Troieshchyna residential district, the man put on dark clothes, covered his face with a hat, and made two targeted shots at a Kyiv resident who got into his car to go to work. As a result of gunshot wounds to the head, the 47-year-old victim died. It is known that the men were not acquainted, so possible hostile relations between them could not have been the motive for the crime,” reported the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.

The investigation established that the murder was not provoked by a personal conflict, so a version of a contract killing is currently being considered. The deceased’s car had personal belongings, cash, and gold, which the attacker did not touch. After committing the murder, the hitman used disguise methods and left the capital the same day. The police have tracked down and seized the suspected murder weapon that the perpetrator disposed of.

The deceased businessman was a resident of Troyeshchyna and owned a tire shop. According to neighbors, he was a kind person who helped others. His acquaintance said that Oleksandr paid for an operation for his daughter, effectively saving her life.

The suspect is charged with premeditated murder committed on order. He faces ten to fifteen years of imprisonment or life imprisonment. Investigators are clarifying all circumstances and also establishing who could have ordered the hit.
