The Deputy Mayor of Sokyryany has been detained for organizing illegal border crossing


The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported the dismantling of a scheme for illegal crossing of the state border, in the organization of which the current deputy mayor of Sokyryany, Chernivtsi region, is implicated. According to the investigation, the official used their position to assist draft dodgers in illegally leaving for Moldova.

The detention of the offender was made possible thanks to information from the operational unit of the Chernivtsi Border Detachment. Law enforcement officers stopped a man who was being smuggled across the border outside of checkpoints. Following this, border guards uncovered the entire network of organizers behind the scheme.

 Using the obtained data, law enforcement officers identified all participants in the illegal scheme. Among them is the deputy mayor of Sokyryany, Chernivtsi region, who, abusing their official position, helped "clients" reach the border. The main organizer from the Khmelnytskyi region was responsible for finding willing individuals and managing the routes, as reported by the border guards.

According to the investigation, the cost of the "service" was approximately 7,000 US dollars per person. During searches of the involved individuals, firearms, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, mobile phones, and a vehicle used to transport clients were seized.

The main suspects in the case have been detained, and they have already been notified of suspicion under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Investigative actions are ongoing, and law enforcement officers are working to identify other potential accomplices in the crime.
