Forbes: France may transfer Mirage 2000 hypersonic fighters to Ukraine

France is removing some of its Dassault Mirage 2000D aircraft from service - about 20 units. It is possible that these fighter-bombers could be transferred to Ukraine.

This assumption was made by Forbes . Journalists noted that the two-seat supersonic single-engine Mirage 2000D is fully compatible with SCALP-EG cruise missiles and HAMMER smart bombs. The former are already in use by the Ukrainian Defense Forces, the latter should appear soon.

Forbes believes that rumors around France, Ukraine and the Dassault Mirage 2000D are circulating for good reason.

If Paris does make such a decision, the announcement could come soon, as French President Emmanuel Macron plans to visit Kyiv in February.

The French Air Force purchased 86 Mirage 2000D aircraft from manufacturer Dassault and, after three decades of intensive service during which several aircraft crashed, decided to modernize 55 for service until the 2030s. According to media reports, about 20 aircraft remain “extra” for the needs of France.

Ukrainian officials are eyeing this type, despite the fact that American F-16s have been chosen as the main ones.

“Yes, French aircraft will require new logistics infrastructure. Yes, SU-24 crews may have to spend months qualifying on Mirages. However, the investment may pay off,” the author believes.
