Ukrainian law enforcement officers, in cooperation with law enforcement agencies of the Republic of Poland, detained a Polish citizen on suspicion of readiness to act in favor of the intelligence services of the Russian Federation, who proposed an attempt on the life of the President of Ukraine.

The Office of the Prosecutor General reports this .

According to the investigation, the suspect, on his own initiative, established contact with representatives of the command of the Russian Armed Forces and informed them of his readiness to work in favor of military intelligence of the Russian Federation.

His tasks included collecting and transmitting information to the aggressor country about the security of the Rzeszow-Jasionka airport on Polish territory. This was, among other things, to help Russian intelligence services plan a possible attempt on the life of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during his stay in that country.

Ukrainian prosecutors and SBU officers informed their Polish colleagues about the possible commission of a criminal offense and provided them with key evidence in this case as part of the provision of international legal assistance.

It is reported that thanks to successful measures and prompt exchange of information between the two countries, a recruited agent of the Russian special services was identified and detained on Polish territory.

The Polish prosecutor’s office charged the detainee with readiness to act in favor of a foreign intelligence service.

On April 18, 2024, the Warsaw District Court applied a preventive measure to him in the form of temporary arrest.

The investigation is being conducted by the Internal Security Agency under the supervision of the National Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Poland. Investigative actions are ongoing.
