Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier convicted in Rivne region for calls to kill MPs

The Dubrovytskyi District Court of Rivne Region found a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine guilty of public calls for violent change or overthrow of the constitutional order.

The military man was dissatisfied with the authorities in Ukraine, as well as with the significant losses suffered by the armed forces. Around July 28, 2022, while at his place of military service in the Rivne region, he recorded a video on his phone. In the video, he called for the violent destruction, with the use of weapons, of representatives of the legislative branch of government in Ukraine, namely 450 deputies of the Verkhovna Rada.

On the same day, for the purpose of distribution, the serviceman sent this video to an acquaintance who takes an active public position and administers groups on social networks. The latter allegedly did not familiarize himself with the contents of the video, did not know about the criminal intent of his comrade and distributed it on his page on the social network TikTok.

One day at the end of July 2022, a video of a serviceman under unknown circumstances appeared on other social networks and groups, in particular in one telegram channel.

At the court hearing, the man admitted completely and sincerely repented. He confirmed that he took a video and sent it to a friend so that he could post it on TikTok. And immediately two days later I asked my friend to delete this video.

Now I have drawn the appropriate conclusions for myself, and I very much regret that I did so. He asked not to punish him strictly, not to deprive him of his freedom, and to take into account that he supports two young children, five and seven years old.

The serviceman has no previous convictions, is characterized positively at the place of service, and is a participant in hostilities. He was sentenced to 1 year of suspended imprisonment, and was released from serving his sentence for the same period.
