Dutch Defence Minister Kaisa Ollongren at the 22nd meeting of the Contact Group on Defence of Ukraine (Ramstein format) announced the transfer of a batch of YPR-765 infantry fighting vehicles to Kyiv.
The Dutch Ministry of Defence announced this on May 20.
According to the press release, Dutch infantry fighting vehicles will arrive in Ukraine “soon”; their exact number and type have not been disclosed.
“For Ukraine, such armored vehicles are very important. They are maneuverable, can quickly overwhelm troops and can be used for reconnaissance, offensive and defensive,” Ollongren emphasized.
The Dutch Ministry of Defence indicates that Ukraine has already received 207 such infantry fighting vehicles of various types from the Netherlands. The request for infantry fighting vehicles came from Ukraine.
YPR-765 is a Dutch technology that has been in service with the country’s army since 1977. They are equipped with remote weapons control stations, allowing the crew to control the weapons from the inside. This also allows the vehicles to provide fire support on the battlefield.
The Netherlands had more than 2,000 of these infantry fighting vehicles, which were later replaced by modern ones, in particular the CV90.
