According to the spokesman for the Khortytsia unit, Nazar Voloshin, the Ukrainian defender ran out of ammunition, and the Russian was about to shoot him, but his weapon jammed.

The Russian Armed Forces continue to attempt an offensive in the Kharkiv region and want to capture the border town of Vovchansk. Ukrainian defenders are using every opportunity to ensure that the enemy’s plans fail. Nazar Voloshin, speaker of the operational-strategic group of troops (OSG) “Khortytsia”, spoke about one of the cases of hand-to-hand combat on this section of the front in a commentary to Liga.net.

According to him, a Ukrainian marine from the 501st separate battalion, Vadym Yaroshenya, met an armed Russian occupier in the Vovchansk area. A hand-to-hand duel ensued between them, in which the Ukrainian Armed Forces fighter won with the help of knives.

As Nazar Voloshyn says, then the marine unit received a combat mission from the command - to drive out the occupying forces from one of the positions on the outskirts of Volchansk, where they had already managed to gain a foothold and occupy the house of local residents.

Only 10 meters before the positions of the Russian Armed Forces, sailor Vadym Yaroshenya saw that a Russian was aiming a machine gun at him, but by that time the Ukrainian had completely run out of ammunition.

The shot never happened because the enemy’s weapon jammed, the speaker of the OSUV “Khortytsia” continues the story. The Ukrainian defender took advantage of the moment, closed the distance and eliminated the Russian with the help of cold steel.
