ISW: Russia could form a new army for deployment in Ukraine

Russia could form another combined arms army to deploy in Ukraine.

This became known from a report by the Institute for the Study of War ( ISW )

Verbatim: “The Russian army is undergoing large-scale reforms, including the creation of new army-level combined arms formations, and the reference by Ukrainian sources to the “51st Army” may be an early indicator that Russia has formed another combined arms army for deployment in Ukraine.”

Details: Military analysts noted that the speaker of the Operational-Tactical Group of Troops "Kharkiv" Yuriy Povkh said that the Russian military intends to transfer units of the "9th Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 51st Army" to the Kharkiv direction.

Povkh said that Russian troops transferred Russian units from the Kherson region and other directions to the Kharkiv direction.

The representative of the operational-strategic group of troops "Khortytsia", Lieutenant Colonel Nazar Voloshyn, also said that Russian troops intend to transfer units of the 155th Marine Brigade (Pacific Fleet) and the "9th Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 51st Army" to the Kharkiv direction in order to compensate for the heavy Russian losses.

ISW recently received a report that the Russian military had transferred units of the 155th Marine Brigade and the 9th Motorized Rifle Brigade (1st Army Corps "DPR") from the west and southwest of Donetsk to the Kharkov direction, but did not record any reports about the Russian "51st Army".

ISW noted that the Russian military may have subordinated the 9th Motorized Rifle Brigade to the revived, possibly from World War II, “51st Army.”
