The XXXIII Summer Olympic Games were officially opened in the French capital of Paris on Friday, July 26. This year’s main sporting event brought together about 11 thousand athletes from more than 200 countries.
According to tradition, the Olympic Games started with a grand opening ceremony. Moreover, for the first time in history, it did not take place at a stadium - the organizers of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the French hosts decided to take the show to the Seine River.
In addition, for the first time the ceremony was opened by a parade of athletes. If previously athletes appeared in the arenas closer to the end of the event, now they appeared at the beginning. The delegations appeared before the audience on boats. Ukrainians entered the Seine in 193, and the country’s flag was carried by tennis player Elina Svitolina and swimmer Mikhail Romanchuk.
The opening director of the Olympic Games was Thomas Jolly. It was he who wrote the script for a grandiose show that unites France of the past and present. The contrasting culture of the host country was shown and all the parts that form the diverse cultural identity of France were brought together.
