Ukraine is increasing its capabilities to use long-range drones. This has already become a real strategic sector of the Ukrainian "defence industry", and Kyiv will continue to work on further limiting Russia’s ability to wage war.

The corresponding statement was made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his evening video address on August 9. The video was traditionally published on the official Telegram channel of the head of state.

In particular, the president noted that a rescue operation is ongoing in Kostyantynivka, Donetsk region, after a Russian strike on an ordinary supermarket. Dozens of buildings were damaged there: a post office, shops, houses. More than 40 people are known to have been injured - all are receiving the necessary assistance. Unfortunately, 14 people died, Zelenskyy said and expressed condolences to the families and friends of the victims.

Russia always knows where it is hitting with its missiles, and this is a conscious and purposeful Russian terror. Another crime of war, for which the occupier will answer. Will answer before the court and history and is already answering before the strength of our soldiers, who are returning justice, who are destroying the occupier and defending our positions. They are defending exactly as needed to preserve Ukrainian independence and achieve our goals. And the main one is as soon as possible - a just peace for all our people, real security for all our regions and communities, - he said.

According to the president, this is possible only on the condition that the initiative in the war is with Ukraine, our unity with the world is preserved, and everyone in Ukraine works for the state, common interests and security.

"I am grateful to everyone who carries out such tasks for Ukraine. Who fights for Ukraine truly steadfastly and bravely. I am proud of all our combat brigades! And I would like to separately thank those of our soldiers and our units who ensure the replenishment of the exchange fund - take the occupier prisoner and thus help to free our people from Russian captivity. This is extremely important and over the past three days - especially effective. We must return freedom to all our people who are now in Russian captivity," Zelenskyy said.

He also spoke about the results of the meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s Headquarters .

"There was a thorough report from Commander-in-Chief Syrskyi. About our defense at the front - all directions. Pokrovsk, Toretsk, Kharkiv - all. There was also an analysis of our active actions. Also today there were reports from the Foreign Intelligence Service and the Main Intelligence Directorate regarding the prospects for the near future, the capabilities and tasks that the terrorist state has. We are working to further limit Russia’s ability to wage this war," Zelenskyy said.

In particular, at the meeting of the Headquarters, the head of the SSU, Vasyl Malyuk, read a report on Ukrainian long-range drones.

"Thank you, guys, thank you for your accuracy! And we are building up this capability. This is already a real strategic branch of the "defense industry" - a branch that will always work in Ukraine. The Air Force Commander also reported at Headquarters on strengthening our air defense. Interior Minister Klimenko reported on the preparation of our schools for the new school year. We are providing assistance to regional authorities, local ones - to communities, so that in all communities where it is possible, children go to school offline," the president said.

He also expressed gratitude to all the soldiers who installed the Army+ application.

"In the first 24 hours, there were 40,000 downloads of the application. A good result and in relation to the average time of use. This application should be scaled to all of our Ukrainian Defense Forces - all commanders, all soldiers. This is really useful - to remove paperwork and all unnecessary bureaucracy. Ukraine must be modern at all levels. Glory to Ukraine!" - said the Ukrainian leader.
