
On Wednesday, August 21, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks with the Ecumenical Patriarch. During the conversation, it became known that Bartholomew may visit Ukraine in the near future.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported this in his Telegram. He thanked His All-Holiness for prayers for Ukraine and for the unwavering support of our people.
The President also noted that he and Bartholomew had positively assessed the development of cooperation, in particular, the recent productive visit of the Ukrainian delegation to the Ecumenical Patriarchate. And they expressed mutual expectations of a return visit from the Patriarchate.
Separately, the President emphasized the importance of the new law on spiritual independence, supported by the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations, and stressed that an independent people must also be independent spiritually.
"An independent country, an independent people must also be independent spiritually. Today, Moscow is losing another lever of influence on Ukraine and Ukrainians," the president said.
He also added that Ukraine strives to strengthen Orthodoxy and promote open dialogue between churches.
