On the morning of August 26, one of the targets of the Russian attack was the Kyiv Hydroelectric Power Station (HPP), located near Vyshhorod. The video shows fire and destruction.
The scale of the destruction remains unknown, a source told Bukvy. Power engineers across the country are currently determining how the Russian Armed Forces’ attack affected the power grid and specific power facilities.
There was no talk of a dam break. It is currently unknown whether there are any casualties or fatalities at this facility. It is known that in the Kyiv region, infrastructure facilities were damaged in general and one person was injured, but it was not specified where exactly.
According to data for September 2021, the capacity of the Kyiv hydroelectric power station is 440 MW. Thanks to this, peak loads in the Ukrainian energy system were also covered. The Kyiv reservoir regulates climatic phenomena such as spring floods or droughts.
The station is a hydroelectric power station building, earth dams and dikes, a concrete spillway dam combined with the station building, 20 spillways and a shipping lock. The length of the protective structures is 70 km, and the greatest height of the dam is 22 m.
