Zelenskyy urges Trudeau to step up advocacy among partners regarding long-range capabilities

On September 3, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had a telephone conversation. Zelenskyy asked Trudeau to step up his advocacy in the West to obtain permission for Ukrainians to strike military targets in Russia.

Canada was also given the current needs of the Defence Forces, including air defence systems and armoured vehicles, the website of the President’s Office reported.

Zelenskyy told Trudeau about the enemy’s missile strike on Poltava and the rescue operation. The Canadian Prime Minister expressed condolences to the families of the victims and the entire Ukrainian people.

The parties also discussed:

– cooperation within the framework of the Drone Coalition and implementation of the bilateral security agreement signed by the leaders on February 24 this year;

– continuation of defense cooperation;

– preparation of a thematic conference based on the Peace Formula point “Release of prisoners and deported persons”, which should take place in Canada;

– agreed on further contacts.
