Zelenskyy: NATO can shoot down drones and missiles, but there is no agreement yet

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed hope that NATO countries would reconsider their stance on protecting Ukraine’s airspace following his meeting with the NATO Secretary General.

This was reported by the media.

At a press conference after the meeting with the NATO Secretary General, the President of Ukraine noted that there is no fundamental difference in the issue of protecting the airspace of Israel, whose skies are protected by allies by intercepting Iranian missiles and drones, and that of Ukraine.

"Today, we discussed Ukraine’s air defence needs and cooperation with neighboring countries. We see, for example, how in the Middle East it is possible to protect human lives thanks to the unity of allies. Joint interception of Iranian missiles does not differ from the damage caused by Russian missiles or Iranian ’Shaheds’ of the Russian and Iranian regimes."

The President expressed hope for a change in NATO’s approach to helping Ukraine with air protection.

"More decisiveness from partners in our region is what is needed to put an end to Russian terror. We will continue to convince our partners," he said.

The NATO Secretary General, responding to the same question, avoided providing a detailed answer about the possibility of shooting down Russian missiles over Ukraine.

However, Zelenskyy added briefly: "The allies are not ready yet."
