Law enforcement agencies have detained agents of the Russian GRU who were planning to commit a terrorist attack in Kyiv. They are residents of Zaporizhzhya.

This is reported by SSU.

"The Security Service and the National Police have prevented a terrorist attack in Kyiv, which was being planned by Russian military intelligence. As a result of a special operation, two Russian agents were detained who were to prepare an improvised explosive device and activate it in one of the crowded places in the capital of Ukraine," the statement said.

According to the SSU counterintelligence data, the occupiers’ goal was the maximum number of casualties among the civilian population of Kyiv to spread panic among citizens.

For carrying out the terrorist attack, the Russian intelligence remotely recruited a 20-year-old resident of Zaporizhzhya, who was seeking "easy" earnings in Telegram channels. After recruitment, the agent received detailed instructions from the occupiers on how to make an explosive device from improvised components.

"According to the aggressor’s instructions, the perpetrator used two mobile phones, which needed to be connected to a detonator with plastic explosive, which she was supposed to find in a hidden cache. The occupants planned to send her the geolocation on the eve of the terrorist attack," the SSU reported.

It was established that she maintained communication with an official of the Russian GRU who was located in the temporarily occupied territory of the Zaporizhzhya region.

"Before cooperating with the aggressor, the agent involved her 26-year-old cohabitant. Before the terrorist attack, both figures were supposed to complete a "control" task from the Russian special service: to set fire to several units of military equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Zaporizhzhya area," the Ukrainian special service added.

Detention of Russian Agents

To prevent the crime, SSU counterintelligence detained both traitors "red-handed" when they attempted to set fire to an infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) performing tasks on the Southern front.

SSU investigators informed them of the suspicion under Part 2 of Article 28, Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed by prior conspiracy by a group of persons under martial law).

The perpetrators are being held in custody without the right to post bail. They face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
