On December 2, Olaf Scholz arrived in Kyiv. President Zelenskyy reacted to his call to Putin.
During his visit to the Ukrainian capital, Scholz, together with Zelenskyy, inspected drones that are produced in cooperation with Germany. Then the politicians held a joint press conference. During this time, the president responded to the recent phone conversation between the chancellor and the head of the Kremlin.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that he knew Olaf Scholz would be calling Putin, and he had previously expressed his position on this matter to him.
The president explained that the head of the Kremlin would use calls from representatives of the civilized world to him to escape political isolation.
After one conversation, there’s a second, third, or fifth conversation because sometimes people want to claim leadership for themselves. And I believe that this could simply lead to a wave of actual recognition of Putin, the politician emphasized.
Zelenskyy believes that conversations between Western leaders and Putin do not strengthen Ukraine. At the same time, he added that Kyiv and Berlin have "far more in common than differences."
