The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, commented on the visit of the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, to Moscow. According to Zelenskyy, Fico’s key goal is to do business with Russia, and this is beneficial for him. This is a major security issue both for Slovakia and for all of Europe, the president believes.
Zelenskyy wrote about this on December 23 on the social network X.
He noted that after the meeting in Moscow, Fico and Putin did not make joint statements and did not answer media questions. According to him, Fico and Putin cannot publicly say anything about what they discussed at the meeting because they fear public reaction.
"Moscow provides significant discounts to Fico, but Slovakia pays for them. Such discounts are not free – they are paid for with sovereignty or shadow schemes. This should interest Slovak law enforcement agencies and special services," Zelenskyy wrote.
According to him, the details of such financing were revealed during a recent meeting of European leaders in Brussels. The leaders noted that Fico does not want to participate in joint European work on energy independence or seek alternatives to Russian gas, the president said.
Zelenskyy noted that Fico, on the contrary, wants to help Russia oust American gas and energy resources of other partners from Europe, which means he wants to help Putin earn money to finance the war and weaken Europe.
"We are losing people because of the war that Putin started, and we believe that such help to Putin is immoral," the president stressed.
Zelenskyy added that Fico even refused compensations that would ease the transition period and help rid of dependence, meaning that for him this matter is not a security issue.
"He is interested specifically in Russian gas, which costs 500 million US dollars a year. Other profits come from the oil pipeline that passes through Ukrainian territory and brings another 500 million dollars a year, which helps Mr. Fico," Zelenskyy wrote.
According to him, Fico’s key goal is to do business with Russia, and this is beneficial to him.
"This is indeed a major security issue both for Slovakia and for all of Europe. Why is this leader so dependent on Moscow? What is he being paid with, and what does he pay with?" Zelenskyy noted.
