In 2024, Ukraine significantly increased its electricity imports — 5.3 times more compared to 2023. This became necessary due to the consequences of Russian attacks that heavily damaged the country’s energy infrastructure.
As a result, there was a shortage of production capacity for electricity, which compelled Ukraine to actively purchase electricity from abroad.
Electricity import became a key step in ensuring stable energy supply amidst prolonged attacks on the energy system. This allowed avoiding significant disruptions in electricity supply for the population and businesses.
