Ukraine wants to immediately stop the transit of Russian oil to the EU

A draft law has been registered in the Verkhovna Rada for the immediate cessation of Russian oil transit through Ukraine to European Union countries.

This proposal aligns with the earlier decision to ban the transit of Russian gas.

One of the largest routes for transporting Russian oil remains the "Druzhba" pipeline, which generates approximately $20 million in revenue for Russia daily. The transit through Ukraine via this route takes place under a contract signed in 2019, which is set to expire at the end of 2029.

The author of the draft law justifies this step by citing national security, the need to intensify sanctions pressure on Russia, and the cessation of financing the aggressor through revenues from energy exports.
