
On the morning of January 18, Russia attacked Kyiv with ballistic missiles. The attack resulted in fires and casualties.
This was reported in the Telegram channel of the Kyiv City Military Administration head Tymur Tkachenko and the channel of Kyiv’s mayor Vitaliy Klychko.
An air raid alert was declared in the capital at 05:50. Before and after the signal, a series of explosions were heard. The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that there is a threat of the use of ballistic weapons in those regions where the alarm was announced.
A few minutes later, local authorities reported that air defence was operating in Kyiv. After further explosions, the media reported that water was cut off in some districts of the capital.
As of 06:04, Klychko stated that a non-residential building was on fire in the Shevchenkivskyi district. All units were dispatched to the scene. Later, it was reported that at least three people had died.
"Also, in the Shevchenkivskyi district, windows were blown out and smoke appeared in the stairwell of a residential building. The glass elements of the entrance to the Lukyanivska metro station were damaged. It is currently being closed for entry and exit. Trains are passing without stopping at the station," Klychko reported at 06:28.
During this time, it was also reported that at 06:22 debris fell in the Desnianskyi district.
Later, Klychko reported that a water supply pipeline was also damaged in the Shevchenkivskyi district. Repair crews are currently heading to the site.
