Ukrainian military lose four out of five FPV drones they try to use against Russian Armed Forces units, explained a spokesperson for the 79th Air Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Russian command has saturated the front line with powerful electronic warfare (EW) systems that disrupt the operation of Ukrainian reconnaissance and strike drones. UAV operators are searching for secure frequencies, but opportunities are dwindling. It is for these reasons that drone losses have increased. Details about the use of drones and EW were discussed by the head of communication of the 79th Air Assault Brigade, Junior Lieutenant Roman Pysarenko, during a broadcast on the "We Ukraine" TV channel.
Pysarenko explained that the Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers recently experienced a sharp increase in the need for FPV drones, as many are lost at the front line. Due to the EW measures possessed by the Russians, they often have to change the operating frequency so that the device can slip through to the target. According to the soldier, there are fewer and fewer such "loopholes to bypass".
"In Russia, the EW is very powerful, and because of this, there is a very high loss of FPV drones. That is, out of five, approximately one makes it. Plus or minus," is heard in the video.
In addition, the soldier talked about the features of using different types of drones at the front line. In particular, both Mavic UAVs and FPV are needed there. Mavic is a reconnaissance drone that tracks the positions of the Russian Armed Forces, and it can be both night and day. Today, night UAVs are especially useful, as it gets dark earlier in winter, the soldier noted. When they are in operation, they can detect places of Russian troop gatherings, logistics routes, and then these points "get hit". Ukrainian military also listed the armored vehicles used by the enemy in attacks (tanks, trailers, BBM, MT-LB) and reported the successful capture of 14 Russian soldiers, though no details were specified.
Fighting in Donbas — details from the 79th Brigade
Focus wrote about the capture of Russian Armed Forces soldiers, with the successful special operation carried out by the 79th Brigade’s soldiers using drones that were not hindered by Russian EW. The soldiers explained that first, strike drones were used on enemy positions, followed by a rapid charge into the Russian bunker, the entrance of which was bombarded with grenades. After this, the Russians put down their weapons and raised their hands: another drone recorded at night as they were led to Ukrainian positions. Two more similar cases followed: first, three enemies were captured, then seven more. In all cases, it was possible to use different types of drones. The approximate location where the events took place is near Kurakhove.
