President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) is being prepared to regulate the prices of medicines.

He reported this on the night of February 10 on his social media platforms.

He noted that on February 10, there was a meeting attended by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Yuliya Svyrydenko, and Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko, where they discussed the issue of the high cost of medicines in Ukrainian pharmacies.

Zelenskyy called the current prices in pharmacies "inadequate." In his opinion, pharmacy chains and manufacturers should create more favorable conditions for Ukrainian consumers, noting that his team is preparing "very concrete proposals in the interests of our citizens to reduce prices."

Additionally, on the same day, the Professional Pharmacy Association of Ukraine (PPAU) reported that the largest pharmacy chains in Ukraine proposed a mechanism to the Ministry of Health to reduce the prices of medicines after this issue was brought up for discussion at the meeting of the National Security and Defence Council.

In this regard, the members of the association suggested that all market participants proportionally reduce markups. In particular, it was proposed to offer a discount on their markup to the manufacturer, while allowing the manufacturer to determine the size of such a discount on the product.
