The leader of the CDU and the most likely candidate for the position of Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, declared his intention to change Berlin’s policy regarding the supply of long-range Taurus missiles to the Ukrainian Armed Forces after the elections.
This was reported by Merz in response to a question at the Munich Security Conference.
"My position and the position of my faction have always been clear," he said, emphasizing the readiness to supply not just missiles. "My personal position is to increase the supply of European weapons to Ukraine," Merz added.
However, he emphasized that negotiations among the donors of the Ukrainian Armed Forces will take place before the start of deliveries. It is noteworthy that he excluded the USA from the participants in these consultations.
"We must be ready to supply, but only if we agree with our European partners, and here I mean the UK and France (who also have long-range missiles) about the division of roles," stated the likely future Chancellor of Germany.
