According to CEC Chair Didenko, elections in Ukraine could theoretically be held on October 26, as Poroshenko mentioned, but practically, it’s unlikely.
"Are elections theoretically possible in Ukraine on October 26? Theoretically possible. But what is needed for this? For this, peace must be established in Ukraine, martial law must end, and there must be enough time to amend legislation and properly prepare for the electoral process. Is this practically possible under the conditions we live in today? To be honest, it’s unlikely, in my opinion," Didenko stated.
He noted that the CEC is not taking any steps to prepare for elections on October 26 (although some public sources claim that the CEC has requested information from local authorities about the condition of polling stations), and there are no conditions for conducting them, as the war and martial law are ongoing.
At the same time, Didenko expressed doubts that elections could be held at least six months after the end of martial law, as agreed by parliamentary factions at the beginning of the war.
"Firstly, this period is not legally established, and secondly, even among the signatories of this document, there is no consensus, whether it’s about six months until election day, until voting day, or until the start of the electoral process. What six months are being discussed?" said the CEC chair.
