More than half of Ukrainians fully or somewhat support the activities of Volodymyr Zelenskyy as the president of Ukraine, while 14.4% of respondents do not support the head of state’s activities at all.

This information became known from the results of the Onukh IBIF project survey (Identities and Borders in Flux: Ukraine’s Case), funded by the British Academy, conducted in November 2024 – January 2025, cited by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology.

"When the Onukh IBIF project team (funded by the British Academy) recently asked Ukrainians, ’Do you approve of the actions of Volodymyr Zelenskyy as president?’, they found that support for President Zelenskyy has somewhat increased compared to the previous survey: 63% of Ukrainians fully or somewhat support his activities as president."

Sociologists noted that the support level is close to the level of trust in Zelenskyy, but they are not entirely identical, as "one can approve of someone’s activities but not trust them."

"Also, these indicators (both support and trust) differ from the electoral rating when one must choose from a list whom to vote for. In the case of voting, people use different assessment criteria, reflecting a different attitude. Many are currently manipulating data, presenting approval/trust levels as electoral ratings, which is incorrect," emphasized in KIIS.

The Onukh IBIF project team also asked Ukrainians about the qualities that President Zelensky possesses.

74% of respondents consider him a patriot of Ukraine, 73% are convinced that he is an intelligent and knowledgeable person, 60% consider him honest and trustworthy, and 65% see him as a strong leader.

Moreover, the Onukh IBIF study showed that among political figures, Zelenskyy leads in polls regarding future elections: approximately 26%-32% of citizens said they would vote for him in the first round. MP from "European Solidarity" Petro Poroshenko would be supported by 5-6%.

Sociologists note that a potential contender in the second round could be the former commander-in-chief and now the ambassador of Ukraine to the UK Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, but he has not publicly expressed any political ambitions.

The survey was conducted from November 22, 2024, to January 7, 2025. Using the method of telephone interviews, 1600 respondents aged 18 and over were interviewed. Residents of temporarily occupied territories and those who moved abroad after February 24, 2022, were not included in the sample.
