The Trump administration is completing the closure of 83% of USAID programs, Secretary of State Rubio reported.
He writes on X that 5,200 contracts have been canceled, which "used tens of billions of dollars in a manner that did not contribute to, and in some cases even negatively impacted, the fundamental national interests of the U.S."
"After consultations with Congress, we intend to ensure that the remaining 18% of programs (around 1,000) are now more effectively managed by the State Department," Rubio writes.
It is worth recalling that initially all USAID projects were suspended pending review.
