Russian forces are testing a new offensive tactic: "probing" the front line in the south

Russian troops are currently trying to adapt a new tactic for conducting offensives. In particular, the occupiers are testing the front line in the south – the Huliaipole and Orikhiv directions.

This was stated by the head of the Council of Reservists of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, Ivan Tymochko, on the air of Ukrainian Radio. According to him, when speaking about Russia’s preparations for a new offensive, more attention should be paid to the Zaporizhzhya and Kherson regions.

"In these regions, the enemy once occupied our territories but was repelled... There is a long-standing order from Putin to restore control over the territories from which they fled, retreated... The enemy is testing the front line in the Huliaipole and Orikhiv directions," he noted.

The military officer separately explained why Russia is currently targeting the Zaporizhzhya region, particularly Enerhodar. Recently, more and more questions have arisen regarding the withdrawal of Russian troops from this city. Meanwhile, it is extremely important for the occupiers to show their presence there.

"There, they are still trying to maintain a land corridor of the occupied mainland part of Ukraine, which connects Crimea with the occupied Donetsk and Russia. Additionally, this is still part of the Black Sea coastline, for which negotiations are currently underway... We can consider the Zaporizhzhya direction as an attempt by the Russians to develop their tactic of advancing along riverbanks to push along the river and displace the Armed Forces of Ukraine," Tymochko emphasized.

The head of the Council of Reservists added that earlier, on the Orikhiv front in the Zaporizhzhya region, the Defence Forces conducted a counter-offensive.

"Everything there is now so fortified, dug into concrete ground, that to say that the Russians would be able to conduct an operation there with the available forces is unlikely. Or an operation of at least a serious operational level, or such an operation that would force the Armed Forces of Ukraine to sharply increase our military contingent in these directions. However, there are indeed certain movements observed within the existing forces, meaning pulling their forces from the rear closer to the front line," the military officer noted.
