Over the past 30 years, the average pension in Ukraine has increased 122 times, and in dollar terms, 5.6 times. What’s behind these numbers.
This is reported by the Pension Fund of Ukraine (PFU).
According to PFU, the average pension at the beginning of 2025 increased by 552 hryvnias, or 9.5%, to 6,341 hryvnias.
The official dollar exchange rate decreased by 1.4%, which accelerated the increase in pensions in dollar terms. The average pension increased by 15 dollars and amounted to 153 dollars.

In Ukraine, data from the State Statistics Service on the average pension is available from 1996 to 2018. In recent years, information is published by the Pension Fund of Ukraine.
The data indicates that in 1997 the pension amounted to 52 hryvnias. By April 2025, it increased 122 times to 6,341 hryvnias.
However, the dollar exchange rate increased 22 times during this period - from 1.9 to 41.5 UAH/USD. Thus, the dollar pension of Ukrainians increased 5.6 times - from 27 to 153 dollars.
The maximum increase was recorded in 2004 when pensions almost doubled - from 34 to 60 dollars. However, after the start of Russia’s war against Ukraine in 2014, pensions decreased from 191 to 100 dollars.
After Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, pensions changed insignificantly, but still increased.
