In the Carpathians, on a mountainous section of Ukraine’s state border within the "Shybeny" unit, the bodies of two men were found over several days. The deceased were from Lviv and Donetsk regions.
The tragic incidents were reported on May 26 by the Western Regional Directorate of the State Border Guard Service on Facebook. The men died from hypothermia, the agency noted.
The first man was found lifeless during a monitoring by a border patrol of the Chernivtsi unit.
A forensic examination established that the cause of death was hypothermia. Law enforcement determined that the deceased was a Ukrainian citizen born in 1994, a resident of Lviv region.
A few days later, border guards discovered another deceased man in the same area. He had documents in the name of a Ukrainian citizen born in 1992, a resident of Donetsk region.
"From his personal belongings, it became clear that the man likely intended to illegally cross the state border," the SBGS noted. The preliminary cause of death is also hypothermia.
The SBGS once again warned citizens against attempting to illegally cross the border.
"This is not only illegal but also extremely dangerous. Despite the end of spring, weather conditions on the mountainous sections of the border remain harsh: high humidity, low temperatures, and strong winds create very unfavorable conditions for mountain excursions," the press service warned.

Over the past three years, more than 60 bodies of deceased men who attempted to illegally cross the border have been found on the western border.
