Ihnat revealed the tactics of the Russians during drone attacks on Ukraine

Russia is changing its tactics of massive strikes on the territory of Ukraine. The enemy is trying to break through the Ukrainian air defence, intensifying pressure amid statements about "readiness for negotiations."

Russia is actively changing its tactics of shelling. Over the past few nights, Russia has been launching massive combined strikes on Ukrainian cities daily.

This became known from a comment by the Head of the Communications Department of the Air Force Command, Yuriy Ihnat, for "RBK-Ukraine."

New shelling tactics

The occupiers continue actively attacking Ukraine almost every night. During the night of May 26 alone, a record number of strike UAVs were recorded – 355, surpassing the previous anti-record of 298 drones in one night.

Lately, they have resorted to combined mass attacks – "Shahed" strike UAVs, "Iskander" ballistic missiles, and guided aviation missiles. Ihnat explained the motivation for the Russians to carry out such strikes.

The Russians’ tactics now involve constantly changing UAV routes and attempting to launch them at high altitudes – more than 2 kilometers from the ground, to then dive down directly onto the target. At such altitudes, they become more visible to our radars but unreachable for small arms, heavy machine guns, and mobile firing groups,
– notes Yuriy Ihnat.

According to Ihnat, "Shaheds" are accompanied by imitation drones without a payload – the so-called "Parodies," which create additional load on air defence. The proportion between real and false drones is approximately 60 to 40.

Strikes amid negotiations

Amid massive strikes, the occupiers are also attempting to use the situation as a tool of pressure in the context of negotiations.

However, it is noted that massive strikes have several other goals, including reducing the combat capability of the Ukrainian army.

On one hand, they want to influence the moods and morale of Ukrainians… However, this is not done just for intimidation – they also want to hit the targets of their strikes – a particular object. These targets may include defence enterprises, critical infrastructure, and strategic state objects,
– add the Air Forces.

Russia is improving drones

The enemy is increasing the combat load of drones. However, this reduces their flight range. Because of this, strike drones weighing 90 kilograms are unlikely to reach the western regions of Ukraine.

Despite the enemy’s new tactics, the Ukrainian Defence Forces manage to destroy most of the targets. Anti-aircraft missile systems, mobile groups, army aviation, fighters, and new elements of drone air defence have been involved in counteraction.
