The animated film «I Died in Irpin» by Ukrainian director Anastasiya Falileyeva received the main award at the International Film Festival in Innsbruck (IFFI), Austria. The film was recognized as the best short film in the VOLKSBANK Tirol competition and won a prize of 1000 euros.

This is noted on the IFFI website.

«I Died in Irpin» is an 11-minute animated film created in collaboration between the Czech Republic and Ukraine. In the film, the director narrates a personal story about the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.

On February 24, 2022, Anastasiya Falileyeva, along with her boyfriend, left Kyiv to go to his parents in Irpin. However, the city quickly became a center of fierce battles and war crimes. In the film, the director sketches events with charcoal on paper, creating surreal images that blend with video footage.

The film has already won the grand prize of the LINOLEUM festival, won at the Kyiv International Short Film Festival (KISFF), and received the national «Kinokolo» film critics’ award.

At the Innsbruck festival, the jury emphasized the deep emotional impact of the film, its unique animation style, and powerful authorial voice.

Anastasiya Falileyeva previously noted that her film is an attempt to comprehend the experienced and preserve the memory of the events in Irpin.

The director is also the creator of the film “A Tiger Wanders Nearby” and the animated series “Dog Patron”.

«I Died in Irpin» is another example of how Ukrainian cinema draws the world’s attention to real stories of war and human tragedies.
